COUNTRY MUSIC CLASSICS
Q & A
March 19th, 2012
QUESTION: Charlie Rich's "My Elusive Dreams" is one of my favorites and my mom says that Porter and Dolly also had a hit on that song. Is that true?
ANSWER: Porter and Dolly did not hit with "My Elusive Dreams" but David Houston and Tammy Wynette did - in 1967 - taking it to number one. Curly Putman, Rusty Draper, and Johnny Darrell also had chart records with the song that same year. Bobby Vinton also made the country charts with the song in 1970 before Charlie Rich's top five hit in 1975.

This day in 1976 - Columbia Records released Marty Robbins self-penned "El Paso City." The single charted the following month and went to #1. The song was Marty's 73rd charted song and his 15th number one. It stayed in the top slot for two weeks and on the charts for 16 weeks.

"Q & A" is a by-product of our weekly "Country Music Classics" newsletter. NO - it does NOT replace the weekly newsletter--it is simply an addition--due to the large number of questions received each week that I do not have room for in the weekly newsletter. Subscribers receive BOTH the weekly newsletter and the daily Q & A---because I do not maintain two separate mailing lists. If you wish to unsubscribe- send a blank email to:

IF YOU DO UNSUBSCRIBE....YOU WILL BE UNSUBSCRIBING FROM BOTH THE WEEKLY "COUNTRY MUSIC CLASSICS" AND THE DAILY "Q & A."
