» Opry East: WIVK/Knoxville is hosting a live radio show featuring multiple artists July 24 at the Clayton Center for the Arts on the campus of Maryville College. Katie Armiger, Frankie Ballard, Blaine Larsen, Troy Olsen and James Wesley will perform at WIVK Live, which will be heard on the station and streamed. "This is something WIVK has wanted to do for a number of years," OM/PD Mike Hammond says. "Our staff is excited about doing a live radio show since we're all fans of the Grand Ole Opry." Hammond tells Country Aircheck that WIVK Live has the potential to become a regular occurrence.

» Red Woods Mountain: The Woods At Fontanel has partnered with Red Mountain Entertainment, which will produce shows for the new outdoor venue on the grounds of Fontanel Mansion near Nashville. Red Mountain's Gary Weinberger and John Ruffino will oversee booking, production and offer general consulting to Fontanel's Dale Morris and Marc Oswald. The Birmingham, AL-based company is opening a Nashville office next month. Songwriters Sing for Nashville, a July 17 flood benefit, will be the venue's first event.

» Weak Links: Black River VP/Promotion Jim Dorman and veteran programmer Bob McNeill graciously volunteered at last week's US Open at Pebble Beach, offering tips to golfing greats. McNeill toiled in the locker room while Dorman was assigned to Phil Mickelson's group for two days and Tiger's group on Saturday. Dorman's job was to jump in the fairway following tee shots, measure the distance left to the cup and relay that info to broadcasters. Open TV viewers got a glimpse of Dorman when he was – by chance, of course – precisely positioned directly in front of the camera as Tiger lined up a putt on 18.

» Landing Zone: Former WBYT/South Bend, IN PD Mark Allen has been hired to program Oldies WIBN/Lafayette, IN. Allen left 'BYT in April.

» One Week Left: You've got until July 1 at 5pm CT to submit your 2010 CMA Broadcast Awards packages. » One's On The Way: Coal Miner's Daughter, Loretta Lynn's autobiography, will be reissued in September with actress Sissy Spacek narrating audio versions. Spacek won an Oscar for portraying Lynn in the film adaption of the story. Sony/Nashville will release a multi-artist Lynn tribute album later this year.

» They Report, He Decides: Already a Fox News regular, Larry Gatlin has landed his own weekly op-ed column on FoxNews.com's Fox Forum. Gatlin's debut article titled "Faith, Hope and Charity, That's What Our Country Needs" went live today (6/24). Read it here.

» Life Note: Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Kevin Sharp, who broke his leg in a Riverton, WY hotel prior to a local Relay For Life performance. Sharp was airlifted to a Denver hospital for surgery and is looking forward to returning home to continue healing.
