» May City Rollers: Listed in order by metro size, here is the first set of Arbitron's May PPM ratings for Country stations with a 1.0 share or better for the period of April 29-May 26. All figures are persons 6+, Monday-Sunday, 6am-midnight, with rankings in parentheses.
  • Los Angeles: Mt. Wilson's KKGO slipped 2.0-1.8 (20t-22t), with its reach down 68,700 to 1,028,700 (24-27). A year ago, Go Country posted a 2.9 (14t) and cume of 1,240,400 (21).
  • Chicago: After three consecutive declines, CBS Radio's WUSN edged up 3.7-3.8 (9-9), adding 78,000 listeners to total 1,274,600 (14-14), its second-highest ever and most since last September. In May '09, US99 earned a 4.2 (6t), reaching 1,053,400 (16).
  • San Francisco: Entercom's KBWF gained for the second straight survey, up 2.1-2.2 (20t-18t), notching its highest ratings since last August. Cume fell 45,900 to 435,100 (23-25). Twelve months back, The Wolf had a 2.8 (14) and 541,600 listeners (20). Empire's KRTY/San Jose fell from last month's peak, 1.5-1.2 (25t-27), with cume down 28,000 to 239,100. (27-31).
  • Dallas: Cumulus' KPLX enjoyed a 4.1-4.6 bump (7-5). America's cume leader for the second month in a row, The Wolf's audience grew a whopping 131,300 to 1,371,100 (5-4), best in station history and second-highest of all time anywhere (close to WUSN's 1,385,400 last September). In May '09, KPLX was No. 1 with a 5.6 (1) and cume of 1,195,600 (4). Citadel's KSCS was level at a 3.5 (9-8), but its reach gained 42,400 to 946,100 (11-10), its most since last August. A year ago, 'SCS had a 3.9 (8) and a cume of 1,004,600 (9), still its best in PPM.
  • Houston: Following its first decline in four sweeps, Cox's KKBQ improved 3.8-4.1 (8t-9), while its audience declined 7,900 to 1,045,900 (7-7). Those figures beat May '09's 3.9 share and listenership of 1,010,400 (8). In its first down book this year, CBS Radio's KILT-FM eased 3.4-3.2 (13t-14), with cume down 80,000 to 906,100 (8-11). That also tops May '09, when KILT-FM generated a 3.1 (15) and a reach of 827,600 (12). Cox's Classic Country KTHT was up 1.6-1.8 (22-22t), while its cume was off 18,700 to 481,600 (20-21). A year ago, 'THT had a 2.5 (17) and 533,900 listeners (21).
  • Atlanta: In the first of two impressive performances, Citadel's WKHX jumped 4.5-5.2 (8-6) to its highest share since January, and delivered both a record cume and cume rank of 836,200 (11-9), up 93,400 (+12.6%). Those numbers easily beat May '09's 4.1 (9) and reach of 718,100 (12). Clear Channel's WUBL was up for the fourth month in a row, 3.4-3.6 (14-13t) to its best share and share rank since its all-time peak last September. The Bull set a cume record for the second straight month, up 19,500 to 750,800 (12-11); that cume rank is also a new high. 'UBL is well ahead of May '09's 3.0 (15t) and tune-in of 668,800 (13).
  • Philadelphia: After three consecutive 4.4 shares, Beasley's WXTU advanced to a 4.6 (7-6), with cume up 11,100 to 780,700 (14-13), its most in two years. In May '09, 'XTU had a 4.2 (6t) and listenership of 685,400 (17).
  • Washington, DC: In its strongest showing since last November, CC's WMZQ accelerated for the third month in a row, up 2.9-3.4 (14-14t). Its audience ballooned by 103,300 (+17.9%) to a record 680,500 (13-12). A year ago, 'MZQ had a 4.0 (12) and reach of 632,100 (12).
  • Riverside: CBS Radio's KFRG declined 4.5-4.0 (5t-6), while its cume was off 31,800 from last month's station best to 328,500 (7t-11). Twelve months back, K-Frog also had a 4.0 (6), and cume of 309,300 (12). Mt. Wilson's KKGO/Los Angeles fell 1.3-1.0 (27t-31t), but posted a station peak in cume, up 19,900 to 173,500 (25-24). In May '09, Go Country pulled a 1.3 (29t) with 96,100 listeners (33).
  • San Jose: Following the station's best book since its first PPM survey in July '08, Empire's KRTY was down 4.3-3.2 (8-10t), shedding 8,900 cume to tally 154,700 (19-20). However, those ratings still were better than May '09's 2.9 (12t) and reach of 141,800 (18).
     


» Choice Pro: Clear Channel's WFUS/Tampa APD/MD Erik Tomlin has been promoted to a corporate programming position within Clear Channel after three years at the station. As part of his responsibilities, Tomlin will serve as Programming Asst. for Premium Choice, working for SVP/Programming Darren Davis. He will remain based at CC/Tampa. "If I'm doing my job properly, my people should go on to do huge things, I just wish it was later rather than sooner," says PD Travis Daily, who is looking for a new APD. » iBWI: Ticketmaster executive consultant Janenne Remondino has been named Digital PD for Clear Channel/Washington, DC & Baltimore, which includes Country WMZQ and WPOC, respectively. In this newly created post, she will enhance digital assets such as station websites and CC intiatives including iheartradio.


» Fest Money: The Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau's preliminary conservative estimate is that CMA Music Fest pumped $24 million into the Nashville economy, up from $22 milliion in '09. This year's estimated daily attendance was 65,000, up from 56,000 in 2009, with a 33.3% increase in four-day ticket packages and four-consecutive Nightly Concert sellouts at LP Field, as reported Monday (CAT 6/14).


» All A-Board: At today's NAB Radio Board elections, with Beasley Broadcasting EVP/CFO Caroline Beasley and Emmis President/Programming Rick Cummings were elected Chair and First Vice Chairman, respectively, by unanimous vote. Re-elected as Second Vice Chairman by acclamation was Tri State Communications President/CEO Randy Gravley, while Cumulus Media Chairman/CEO/President Lew Dickey was unanimously elected to the Radio Board's major group representative seat.


» Animal Lovers: Clear Channel's KRYS/Corpus Christi, TX stirred up local news reports by protesting a protest. PETA was in town demonstrating against a circus, so the station set up nearby to hand out hot dogs, animal crackers and circus tickets. Staffers dubbed themselves "DJETA" DJs for Eating Tasty Animals. Watch video here.


» Right Knight: Dial Global's The Lia Show will broadcast live from the company's Nashville studios and the city's Bridgestone Arena June 21-22 to raise awareness for the Nashville Rising benefit. "I’m a Clarksville, TN girl and my town was also underwater, like Nashville," host Lia Knight says. "The people of Middle Tennessee have set an amazing example of how a community can come together after such a devastating event and rise above." » Have You Seen This Dog? Rocky Comfort's Tracy Lawrence has issued a $500 reward, which will be matched by WSIX/Nashville, for anyone with information surrounding the theft or whereabouts of his English bulldog Tank. The dog was taken from Lawrence's truck yesterday (6/15) at approx. 8:30pm while parked at the Walgreens on Lebanon Rd. in Mt. Juliet, TN. "Tank was my Father's Day present two years ago," Lawrence says. "He's not only a member of our family but a part of our road crew. We'd sure like to have him back home with us and appreciate your help." Regrettably, Tank had just been bathed and was not wearing his collar or ID. If you have any information, please contact MT.
