| June 18, 2010 | » Rank And File: Here is the final batch of Arbitron May PPM ratings for the period of April 26-May 26. With markets listed by metro size, all shares are persons 6+, Monday-Sunday, 6am-midnight, with rankings in parentheses. - Portland, OR: Entercom's KWJJ extended its format winning streak to five months, rising 4.5-4.6 (6-6), adding 33,400 listeners to tally 408,100 (9-8). Alpha's KUPL slipped 3.5-3.2 (13-14), though its cume increased 17,300 to 344,200 (12-11). KUPL conducted its St. Jude radiothon the first two days of the May survey, though that appeared to have no significant impact either way, as the two stations posted the same shares and share ranks they registered in March.
- Sacramento: CBS Radio's KNCI opened up a three-share format lead, its largest in nine months of PPM, rising 4.7-5.4 to its best book since October. KNCI also set a cume record, up 34,500 (10.3%) to 369,800 (12-9). Entravision's KNTY declined 2.7-2.4 (14-15), but its reach grew 11,500 to 236,500 (14-14).
- Cincinnati: Bonneville's WUBE jumped 7.3-7.9 (2-2) to its best showing since December, and set a PPM cume record, up 22,500 to 507,000 (7-6), its third consecutive audience increase. Doug Braden's WPFB-FM/Dayton held steady at a 1.3 (19t-20), but its cume gained for the third straight session, reaching a PPM-high of 154,700 (17-17), up 12,700. That was good enough to pull in front of Bonneville's WYGY, which dipped 1.3-1.1 (19t-22), shedding 8,900 cume to reach 165,000 (16-16).
- Cleveland: In its best sweep since December, Clear Channel's WGAR tied co-owned WPOC/Baltimore with the biggest one-month increase in May, climbing 5.8-6.6 (8-5t). Cume improved 37,600 to 459,900 (8-8), its most since November. Rubber City Radio's WQMX/Akron earned its best ratings in PPM, up 1.4-1.6 (18-17). Its cume was up for the fifth month in a row, rising 12,400 to reach 161,900 (17-17), its highest since October.
- Salt Lake City: Citadel's KUBL advanced 4.9-5.2 (4-4), reaching 449,900 (6-4), up 17,800. KSOP, Inc.'s KSOP-FM topped last month's best-ever PPM share, up 4.0-4.1 (10-7t). That share rank is also a PPM high. Cume slipped 5,100 from April's record audience to 308,800 (13-13). Simmons' KEGA gave up a tenth, 2.0-1.9 (20-21t), with its listenership down 3,300 to 232,900 (17-16).
- San Antonio: Cox's KCYY moved 7.0-6.8 (1-2), with its reach off 1,400 to 647,900, but continued as the metro cume leader for the fifth straight month. CC's KAJA shifted 6.4-6.2 (4-4), but added 9,100 listeners to reach 561,600 (6-4). Cox's Classic Country KKYX-AM faded 1.3-0.9 (22-24t), with its cume down 21,200 (-26.6%) to 58,600 (26-28). Since Univison began PPM encoding on six local stations (four Spanish-language, one Rhythmic Top 40 and one Active Rock), Country's share has fallen 4.8 shares (25.7%) in two months.
- Kansas City: Wilks' KFKF delivered its best-ever PPM survey, up 5.2-5.5 (6-5), while its cume declined 4,500, reaching 281,700 (10-11). Entercom's WDAF pulled into the No. 2 format position for the first time since December, up 3.8-4.0 (11t-11). Its audience grew 4,200 to 271,500 (12-12). Wilks' KBEQ fell 4.7-3.9 (8-12t), but picked up 4,100 cume, reaching 316,300 (9-9).
- Las Vegas: A change of the guard here, as Beasley's KCYE won the format battle for the first time in the market's nine PPM surveys. 'CYE grew 2.9-3.2 (14t-13), its best share and rank ever in PPM. Cume was up 17,400 to 232,000 (17-13). CC's KWNR was down 3.7-2.9 (12-14t), with its audience off 20,100 to 214,700 (13-16).
