BIG FROG 104'S HOT NEWZ FROM NASHVILLE

October 29, 2010

» Brooks Overflowing: Garth Brooks will stage his first Nashville arena concert in 12 years Dec. 17 at the Bridgestone Arena to support ongoing flood relief efforts in Middle Tennessee. "We're following in the footsteps of a lot of artists who [supported flood relief efforts], and all we're doing is trying to continue the example that they have set," Brooks said during the State Capitol press conference. "Yes, we're going to again ask Tennesseans to pull Tennessee out of this. But I'm making the plea to all our families from Ireland, Australia, Germany, all over the world, 'If [seeing a Garth Brooks show] is a bucket list [item] for you, this is the time to do it. Come here, because our job is to show everyone that Nashville is not only up and running, it's better than it's ever been.'" After the event, Brooks and wife Trisha Yearwood discussed the possibility of scheduling  guests performers. "We're going to ask our usual guys ... It's not unlike us to beg," Brooks said. "So if there are surprises, great. We just don't want to sell a ticket and then [fans are] disappointed. So we'll try to keep quiet, and whoever wants can seek us out." Yearwood added, "We can confirm that we're going to be there." Ticket information will be announced at noon CT next Wednesday (11/3). Details here. Every penny of the $25 ticket price will go to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for flood relief.

» H2 Oh No We Didn't (Yes We Did)! Journalists and music execs welcomed Brad Paisley to his "Water" No. 1 party with a chorus of "Happy Birthday" Thursday (10/28). "This song became more than just a single from an album," Paisley said, probably not referring to "Happy Birthday." "It became a whole year of my life. Then we had the flood, and it had way more meaning that I ever expected it or wanted to get. We were faced with all these things like rebuilding the set, rebuilding the city and making something good out of a bad thing. There was nothing that felt hollow about this year." Wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley was also at the event, which was held at ... wait for it ... Watermark restaurant.

» Swiftly Speaking: Taylor Swift will be testing out new catchphrases in different languages when she tours overseas next year beginning Feb. 9 in Singapore (full itinerary here). During her first interview on the Late Show With David Letterman, Swift showed off her skills in Japanese. "This is the first international release where the CD is released everywhere, so I've been all over the place recently," she tells Letterman. "I always try to adapt myself a little bit by learning a few phrases. Sometimes it fails miserably. When I'm in Japan, I speak in Japanese the entire show. You just memorize something and you figure out what it means and you say it." Watch the full Late Show appearance here and view more Swift television spots below.

» Pushing The Envelopes: Hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood can't do all the work during the 44th Annual CMA Awards. Luckily, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker, Luke Bryan, Little Big Town, Kellie Pickler, LeAnn Rimes, Chris Young, Easton Corbin, the Band Perry and NASCAR's Jeff Gordon will help share the load by presenting many of the awards during the Nov. 10 telecast live from Nashville at 8pm ET on ABC-TV.

» Railroad Crossing: Martina McBride and rockers Train will tape the latest CMT Crossroads installment in Nashville for a Nov. 20 airdate. "Martina is an icon in the country music world because her voice is amazing and her songs are timeless," Train frontman Pat Monahan says. "We can't wait to share the Crossroads stage with her and her band." This is McBride's second appearance on the show, having performed with Pat Benatar in 2003.

» In Case You Missed It: The following artists made the TV rounds this week: Taylor Swift plugged Speak Now on the Today show and Live! With Regis & Kelly. Jamey Johnson performed on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland) gabbed with Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Lately. Couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton went 'gator hunting on the Sportsman Channel's Country Boys Outdoors. Follow the links for the footage.

» April Showers Bring May Festivals: It's only fall, and already the stars are aligning for next spring's major festivals. Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker and Loretta Lynn are among the headliners scheduled for the fifth Stagecoach music fest in Indio, CA April 30-May 1. Passes go on sale Nov. 5 at 10am here. Chesney is also on the bill for the Bayou Country Superfest May 28-29 in Baton Rouge, along with Tim McGraw, Sugarland, Zac Brown Band, Trace Adkins, Billy Currington, Luke Bryan and others. Tickets go on sale Nov. 10 at 10am. Full lineup here.

» 12 Kara Jewel: BRAVO's new songwriting reality series Going Platinum has scored a gem of a host – Jewel. Currently in production in Los Angeles, it bows next year. "I am excited to be a part of this show because, as a songwriter, I understand the dedication and struggle these musicians are going through," she says. "The series will showcase the passion, talent and determination it requires to become a hit songwriter, and, in the end, we will find the next big music star." Twelve songwriters will compete in themed challenges each week and be judged by former American Idol panelist Kara DioGuardi. Details here.

» Field Of Dreams: The inaugural CMT Artists Of The Year special just nabbed an Oscar winner as host. Kevin Costner will emcee the 90-minute event, which airs Dec. 3 and celebrates Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band. Details here.
