October 1, 2010 | » Who Says You Can't Go Home? Tuesday night's Opry House reopening (9/28) kicked off with an emotional moment as Brad Paisley, Little Jimmy Dickens and several Grand Ole Opry members sang the traditional closer "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." But the sellout crowd helped turn the celebration into an all-out party before the night was over. "I had to fight back tears on that first song tonight," Paisley told the audience during his performance later in the show. "I believe the Opry House is the greatest place in the world to sing country music." As if the May flood never happened, the Opry broadcast rolled through a 14-song set, which earned standing ovations for Charlie Daniels and Montgomery Gentry's incendiary "The Devil Went Down To Georgia," Lorrie Morgan and Josh Turner's "Golden Ring" and Blake Shelton's surprise Opry invitation (induction scheduled for Oct. 23). "I'm lovin' this," Shelton said. "This moment right here is hands-down the highlight of my career." The newly renovated facility boasts three HD projection screens, a new artist lobby, 18 updated and themed dressing rooms and an oversized brass marker in the green room marking the waterline from the flood. And what these people have done with this is nothing less than a miracle. I think that me and Brad's guitars experienced the same sort of Baptismal rebirth that I'd like to think Opry has experienced as well, and the spirit has come back stronger than ever." - Keith Urban on the Opry House renovation
- "The flood goes completely unnoticed if this building was not underwater ... This is the most famous export of this city, [and] there's a reason it's on 'Welcome to Nashville' road signs." - Brad Paisley
- "When the floodwaters were four feet high, Little Jimmy Dickens would have been swimming if he was standing [in the Circle]. I'd have been alright, though." -Trace Adkins
- "I feel kind of awkward singing this song tonight because it's all about water. But I'm going to do it anyway." - Josh Turner introducing "All Over Me"
- "When I worked at TNN ... during a lunch break I decided to come over here by myself and see if the doors were unlocked. [So] I started creeping on the stage, made sure no one was looking, walked out on the Circle and sang a little bit of a Hank Williams song. I was sure that the Circle police were going to come arrest me and lock me up in a secret Opry jail." - Dierks Bentley
| » Judge Keith's Cover: For Nov. 16's Get Closer, Keith Urban is leaving the all-important cover art decision to his fans. Two choices are posted on Facebook, and the voting is already heavy. As for the inspiration behind the title, Urban explains, "My instincts have always been to run from love and run from things that are ultimately going to be good for me [because] I'm terrified of getting hurt. But in this marriage, I've been slowly realizing that at those times that's when I should get closer. Every time I've done that it's brought me to a place that was exactly what I was looking for."
