October 5, 2010 » Making Memories Of Them: If anyone can tackle the history of country music in a one-night, 10-artist set, it might be Keith Urban. That's the plan for the All For The Hall benefit concert Tuesday (10/5), as Urban's asked all the performers to play favorite songs by one of their country music heroes. "I wanted to do something different from last year, and the most important thing [about this event] is the history of country music," Urban says. "Every artist I know ... has a strong connection with country music, although their current presentation of it may not sound anything like Conway Twitty or Ernest Tubb. But it's there, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to not only tip our hat to the past, but also to show fans how their favorite artists got here today. It felt like a good win-win." Country Music Hall of Famers Vince Gill, Dolly Parton and Charley Pride, as well as Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Alison Krauss, Billy Currington and John Mayer will support Urban in his ambitious goal to not only chronicle classic country, but to also beat last year's total of nearly $500,000 for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. For Tuesday's (10/5) Bullets In The Gun, Keith logged more than 60 song ideas, melodies and hooks using his handy iPhone app. "For years I carried a little voice recorder around to collect my thoughts for songwriting," Keith says. "But they're like sunglasses; you lose them. [But] you always have your phone with you, and it's backed up every time you dock it at home. So if you lose your phone, you're only going to lose whatever you put on there since you docked it. For me, it's the greatest thing that's happened to songwriting since the invention of the pencil [in that] the quality of the ideas were turned up tremendously, and it showed through on this album." The result is Keith's 10-track 14th studio effort, featuring singles "Trailerhood" and "Bullets In The Gun."
