QUESTION:   "Sweet Dreams" by Emmylou Harris is my favorite record. My dad says somebody else had a hit on that song before Emmylou. Is that true?

ANSWER:       Several somebody's had a hit on "Sweet Dreams" before Emmylou. The song was written by Don Gibson and both he and Faron Young  had a top ten hit on the tune in 1956, Gibson re-recorded the song and the re-released version made it to # 6 in 1961, Patsy Clines' version peaked at # 5 in 1963, Troy Seals scored a chart record with it in 1976  and Reba McEntire did so in 1979. Emmylou Harris was the only artist to take it to number one – in 1976.
