STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Dolly Parton was the first recording artist to earn number one status - twice -
with the very same song.

Her original version of "I Will Always Love You" came on the country music
charts April 6th, 1974 and became her 35th charted song and her 3rd number one.
The RCA Victor single was on the charts for 15 weeks.

Dolly re-recorded the song for the movie "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas."
This second single made the country charts July 31st, 1982 and was in the number
one slot on October 16th. The re-recorded version was on the charts for 19
weeks.

And Dolly recorded "I Will Always Love You" a third time in 1995 - as a duet
with Vince Gill. Their duo effort peaked at number 15 - was on the charts for
20 weeks and also became the CMA's Vocal Event Of The Year" from the "Something
Special" album.

MARIE AND BOBBY.
By: Jack Blanchard

Marie and Bobby are two of the best people we know.
They are old and close friends, like family.
Musicians in their fifties,
they were coming home from a job
when they were involved in an auto accident, and injured.

During their recovery they got hooked on pain pills.
These are not dopers.
They are wholesome people, who play fine music,
and always keep a nice home.
She speaks six languages.

They got a doctor who had a waiting room full of people at all times,
coming from miles around and waiting 5 or 6 hours.
They were waiting for the pills he was so liberal with.
Then they went on tour and had doctors all over the country.
They lost their home, their health,
and got old before our eyes.
They also went into deep depression.

I got a phone call late one night from Bobby.
He said that he and Marie were sitting in their car,
in the closed garage, with the motor running.
They'd had it!

They wanted me to explain to their kids,
who were grown and had families of their own,
that this was their only way out.
They didn't want to be any further burden.
That was the reason for the call.
Or maybe it was a call for help.

They lived 70 or 80 miles from us,
so I couldn't get there in time to do anything,
and I couldn't reason with him, so I tried this:
I told him that if I didn't get a phone call from him
every ten minutes for the rest of the night, I would call 911.
It made him mad.
He pleaded and cursed, but it worked.
They stayed alive and got off the drugs.

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH
By: Stan Hitchcock

As I look upon Your Wonders Lord, of a new day being born, the rising Sun
painting a light Pink across the tops of the Sycamores along the creek, and the
Mountains behind them, I wonder, how could anyone not believe in a God of
Creation? As the birds start their morning chorus, the jackass up the road at a
neighbors farm braying along with the bird chorus...and then in a sudden
silence...a lone Mourning Dove adds its plaintive coo. The best Movie Director
in the World could not arrange such a display of beauty and sound. The best
songwriters could not quite capture it all, the finest Artist could not paint it
in the true form...for it is only You Lord, that chooses that special Sunrise
color, that teaches the birds to sing, and even the Ass to bray. The animals,
more than humans, seem to understand the significance of first light of a new
day. They sing, they call in their special ways, they leap with joy in the grass
and at the edge of the woods, as if to proclaim, "the night is done, a new day
is here!" I guess that is why I arise to early of a morning, I want to
experience that same joy and awe as the Eastern sky begins to lighten. I believe
you cannot watch a Sunrise without feeling the sense of true Thankfulness.
Another day, another page of life to turn, another blank canvas to paint...so I
join the birds and animals to proclaim, Thank You Lord..for it is a Gift and I
intend to use it well.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with
humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to
the humble."
