STORY BEHIND THE SONG
A lot of recording artists refuse to record a song that has already been
recorded - but with Marty Robbins - recording an Elvis Presley song was not a
problem.
Marty commented, "I had a pretty good hit on a song that Elvis Presley had
already recorded - "That's Alright Mama." I didn't do the song near as well as
Elvis did."
"Back in those days I recorded some Chuck Berry songs – and some Little Richard
songs - I even wrote some R & B songs. I even did some shows with some rock acts
even though I was just country."
Marty Robbins Columbia Records single "That's Alright Mama" came on the country
charts February 12th, 1955 and peaked at number seven.
It was his 6th charted song and was on the charts for eleven weeks.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q: Do you know anything about Willie Nelson's condition. I had heard that he
was seriously ill.
A: Willie Nelson's publicist Elaine Schock says Nelson is "perfectly fine."
Her comments followed a report from tabloid-style celebrity gossip site claiming
that Nelson was "at death's door" and has been so affected by emphysema and
pneumonia that he can't even get enough breath to sing. Shock refutes the bogus
claims - saying that Nelson's is doing just fine.
Q: The radio folks mentioned Alabama doing a Haggard tribute show. Is that
true?
A: Alabama has been added to the list of acts slated to play at an upcoming
"Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard," tribute concert - scheduled for
April 6th
at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
Q: Why are the Wilburn Brothers and Johnny Horton not in the country music
hall of fame?
A: I suspect that music business politics is most likely the reason.
Q: Do you know if Glen Campbell ever recorded the old song "Tomorrow Never
Comes?" My mom thinks she heard him sing it on the radio years ago.
A: Glen's version of that song is in his 1967 "By The Time I Get To Phoenix"
album
Q: Our classic country radio station recently played a George Jones version
of the old Faron Young song "I've Got Five Dollars And It's Saturday Night."
There was another guy singing with him. Do you know anything about that
recording?
A: The guy singing with George is Gene Pitney and that recording is in a 1965
album titled "George Jones And Gene Pitney."
Q: I remember a record on the radio in the early 60's about "One Step Ahead Of
My Past." Do you know who had that record?
A: "One Step Ahead Of My Past" was a number 14 hit for Hank Locklin in 1960

SHORT SNORTERS.
By: Jack Blanchard
Willie Nelson is the star of The Florida Strawberry Festival this year.
We were the Strawberry Festival stars 40 years ago.
Willie's coming up in the world.
I was talking with Grandpa Jones about a mutual friend,
a country music star.
Grandpa was worried that our friend was taking a lot of drugs.
I said, "He takes drugs?"
Grandpa said, "Why, he'd take a overcoat button!"
Dick Clark spent a lot of time hanging out with us.
I said, "You really are a nice guy",
and he said, "That's all I've got going".
Back when we had the million-seller Tennessee Birdwalk
there were only a million people in the world.
THE LIMO.
Misty and I once bought a raggedy old limousine for $90.
We needed transportation
and would rather look eccentric than poor.
To add to the effect, we colored it powder blue
with house paint and a brush.
At a gas station two tough guys said they knew the car
and that we owed them big money.
We'd never been there before in our life!
I floored it and sped away at four miles an hour.
A former associate of ours once kept our new Corvette
locked in his garage in New Mexico,
and wouldn't let us have it.
We called a friend in Massachusetts and he flew out there,
broke into the garage, and stole it back for us.
We have always gotten by with help from our friends.
My dad said, "I'd like to purchase a chicken."
The farmer said, "Wanta pullet?"
Dad said, "No. Just put it in a bag. I'll carry it."
Misty called me from the library today
and I said "What are you wearing?"
A BAD HAIR DAY... Misty just said,
"My hair looks like a drowned rat."
I said, "No. It looks like a nice rat." She laughed.
A Wendy's cashier demanded that I prove
that I'm NOT eligible for a senior discount.

View From The Music/Fishing Room-Stan Hitchcock
Well, it was mighty nice of y'all to send me Birthday wishes and I appreciate
all of you. I was well pampered and tended to on my Special Day Of Life. As you
might imagine,
I even found time to go out on the water in a fruitless search for the Big Mouth
Bass, but, alas, none were found. But, the day was beautiful, 83 degrees out on
Old Hickory Lake, until around 3 PM when the storms started rolling in, and we
rolled on out and came home. Denise made me my once a year cake...Pineapple and
Blueberry Upside Down Cake and my Son Stan 2nd grilled us some delicious steaks.
Yessir, it was a mighty fine day. Today, the cold front that moved through
dropped the temps about 40 degrees so it is pretty cool in Middle Tennessee
today.
Birthdays are nice, cause it helps you keep up with your time on Earth, just
marking off another year on the Life Calendar and being Thankful for it. I have
been very
Blessed to have lived a Life in pursuit of something I love...Music, and to have
so many friends that share that Love with me. It is a Meaningful Pursuit, the
Love Of Music,
and taking it to as many people as you possibly can, and knowing that your Music
has touched someone's life in a good way.
So, to all the Songwriters that let me sing their songs, the Musicians that put
the sounds to it all, the producers that sat at the controls, the Sound guys
that tried to make it all sound good and most of all to You, the Classic Country
Music Fans that supported us with record sales and ticket sales and who were
always there in whatever town our Music Carnival happened to show up in, to
encourage us, and let us know you cared...and gave us a reason for being what we
are, "People Of The Music"..
I Thank you all for letting me Survive and even Prosper. Thank you Lord for
keeping us Safe and Healthy all these years...and for giving me a gift that
became a Purpose.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other
and
forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as
the Lord forgave you.
– Colossians 3:12-13
