STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Country music has been referred to as "slices of life" and according to Loretta
Lynn - her hit song "The Pill" was just that.

Loretta commented, "Back in those days - I'd come off the stage after a show and
talk to the people and all the women I talked to were on the pill. So what was
the big deal? I just wrote what those women were thinking! But the song was
banned down South in the Bible Belt. Preachers even preached against the song.
And that just made the record even bigger!"

Loretta's MCA Records single "The Pill" came on the country music charts
February 15th, 1975 and peaked at number five.

It was Loretta's 41st charted song and was on the charts for 12 weeks.

Texas. Hank Williams Sr. wrote a song, and put it on a demo for Bill, called
"There's A Tear In My Beer." Bill gave that demo record to Hank Williams Jr. in
1988. With the assistance of modern technology, Jr. turned it into a duet with
his father, and an award winning video, of Sr. and Jr. singing the song
together.

Axton and Thomas Durden wrote the song. Col Tom Parker insisted that Elvis
received 50% of the songwriting royalties on every song he recorded so Elvis
Presley is listed as one of the writers, but that's not the case. Elvis Presley
never wrote a song, or a piece of a song, in his entire life.

1956 - Patsy Cline recorded four songs in Nashville for her first record label
Four Star Records. The Pasadena, California based company was owned by Bill
McCall, who Patsy claimed was cheating her out of royalties, and forced Patsy to
record only songs belonging to his publishing company. The songs Patsy recorded

Anymore" b/w "Raining In My Heart." Buddy was killed four weeks later in Iowa

Anderson penned tune charted in late September last year, and went to the top of
the chart November 28, 1964. This was Connie's first record, her first chart
hit, and her first #1. This RCA recording is the song that brought Connie to the

THE NEWS.
By: Jack Blanchard

Disease of the heart, Prices get higher,
Porno called art, and your Ford is on fire.

Sniffing of glue, And food that is bad for you,
Chickens with flu, And cows that are mad for you.

Heating oil, Global warming,
Depleted soil, And tropical storming.

Acid rain, Crashing planes,
Crack cocaine, And shooting pains

New commies and predators Tsunamis and senators

Bombs that are nuclear, How high the gas is,
Bombs that are nucular, Destruction of masses.

Air pollution, prostitution, And how to interpret the Constitution

Kids grades, Terrorist raids, and AIDS

The hopeless and the hopers. The homeless and the dopers

Take some pills, Learn new skills,
Pay your bills, And write your wills.

No wonder we've got the blues.
It's THE NEWS!

A View From The Road-Stan Hitchcock

At the start of this New Year, my brother Sam and I have come down with the
Eppozootis (a self-diagnosed disease) and have spent most of this first day on
the couch watching football and eating home-made chicken soup that Our Women
made for us. (The Eppozootis involves Sinus, coughs, sneezes, sore scratchy
throat, achty joints and sleepy eyes). So, naturally, your thoughts turn to ways
you can shape up your old achy body…..
Well, it's about the time of year when I go on my special shape up the old body
diet. After all the Holiday cookin' that I been samplin', a man has to reach
inside his own self and pull out some istrong resolve. When it gets too cold, or
too wet and snowy to go out and fish, here is what you do...You gotta start the
diet early of a morning...by skipping the hot buscuits and sausage gravy that
you usually have...so let me go through the routine...
Well, at the crack of dawn I roll out of bed...and I mean roll...if I had hit
the floor I would bounce like a basketball from all the Christmas and New Years
foods that I have devoured over the Lost Week. But, each new morning brings new
ideas...and so I have decided to go on my Stan's Pretty Good Baloney Diet. This
is a sure fire way of trimming up the old body. You just have Baloney and Cheese
(with a dab of Duke's Mayo) on good fresh white bread...you go out in the barn
and sit in the Bass Boat that is parked there (it does not have to be in the
water) and you eat your Baloney and Cheese sandwich with great Gusto saying
things like, "Man, look at the size of that'n", "Cast over in the weed bed,
Chuck" and "Man, I just had another hit on this Power Bait crawdad"...Continue
that little routine every morning for about 15 minutes...reach into the cooler
and pull out a good cold bottle of water to chase it all down with...and break
out the dessert! Which is, of course, Vienna Sausage on a Soda Cracker. Oh Man,
I can't wait to start this new diet, and when the storms blow over and the rain
stops...I can even practice the same routine out on the water! Yessir, it is
very important to be strong and have a lot of resolve on this diet...ya gotta
stay away from double hamburgers with bacon, bananna cream pies, fried Okra and
stuff like that...just hang with the Thick Sliced 'loney and cheese and you will
shape up in no time. Course, climbing in and out of the boat, after walking to
the barn, is helpful in the exercise department also. Well, that's it. I have
now shared my secret for body toning, so let's get to it fella's...make our
women proud! stan
