STORY BEHIND THE SONG*

*

Some hit songs have been written in just a matter of minutes while others took
weeks - months - and even years to complete !

According to songwriter Curly Putman - the road to success for George Jones 1980
hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today" took three years to complete.

And after completion - Jones was not thrilled with the idea of recording the
tune - because he thought it was morbid and nobody would buy it! (Although in
later interviews - Ole George stated that he knew the song was a hit the first
time he heard it. A hit record can do wonders for your memory.)

Co-writers Curly Putman and Bobby Braddock thought they had written a pretty
good song but were surprised when the song became Jones' biggest hit - taking
home a Grammy, Single Of The Year from the CMA, ACM, and the Music City News,

George Jones' Epic Records "He Stopped Loving Her Today" came on the country
music charts April 12th, 1980 and was at the top of the list on July 5th.

It was his 116th charted song and was on the charts for 18 weeks.*

YET ANOTHER COLUMN JUST TO CHEER YOU UP.*

By: Jack Blanchard
*
If you're over 55 you have to move to move to Florida
and drive with your turn signal on.
It's the law.

The tux I wore on TV is still around here someplace.
Even if I could get into it I can't wear it in Florida
without getting arrested for overdressing.

Last night Misty told me about the time she tried to ride a horse.
She said, "It wouldn't move! It just sat there!"
I said, "SAT there?"

We drove past an IHOP and Misty sang:
"I Hop Alone, Because to tell you the truth I'm a rabbit.
I don't mind. It's a habit. I Hop Alone."
She's deep.

Today I signed a political email petition to say I was for a certain guy.
Then it said: "Thanks. Now chip in."
I wrote: "Hey! If I had any money I'd belong to the other party!"

The recorded lady on my friend's voice mail said,
"If there's no more you may hang up."
I'm glad she told me that.
I could be sitting here all day.

The cop held a gun on Thomas Edison and said,
"Don't get any bright ideas."

EARLY FAST FOOD BUSINESS FAILURE...
"Porcupine On A Stick".

My father eked out a meager living
selling ekes and meagers.*

So that's why I live in Florida and drive with my turn signal on.

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH

By: Stan Hitchcock*

*

*

It's peaceful here on the front porch of the old farm house...a beautiful day of
sunshine and blue sky. Peaceful...that simple word..but one that means so much
to all of us. Most old Sailors and Soldiers appreciate Peace...we strive for it
in everything we do. Young folk chase after new excitement...new games...new
music...and many times, miss the peace that is right in front of them. Peace is
more than quiet times...it is a satisfaction that you have done the best you
could do...you gave it all...and now you don't chase it anymore. That is not to
say we do not still seek adventure, the thrill of discovery, the desire to be
used of God for good. We do, but our focus on the horizon causes us to also be
sensible, we probably are not gonna float a raft down the Mississippi all the
way to New Orleans, like Huck and Tom wanted to do...but, we can put our boat in
and find secret coves and backwaters, and spend a peaceful day on the water. I'm
not gonna have that number one record...but I can be satisfied with the body of
music that I recorded through the 50 years of performance. It was mine, and I
did my best.

Yes, the Horizon seems much closer now, to the old sailors and soldiers, and
flyers, but we had our time, and we gave our time. It ain't over til it's over,
there is still fight left in us if need be, but....the old peaceful front porch
is sure nice.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:*

*

Love the Lord, all his faithful people! The Lord preserves those who are true to
him, but the proud he pays back in full. Be strong and take heart, all you who
hope in the Lord. *
