STORY BEHIND THE SONG*
*
*
Charley Pride's 1980 number one "You Win Again," was the second single release
from his "There's A Little Bit Of Hank In Me" album. The first single "HonkyTonk
Blues" had been to the top of the charts earlier that year.
According to Charley, recording the album was different from all his other
studio sessions. He commented, "I was just a little nervous going in to record
that album - sort of like trying to describe my first Grand Ole Opry appearance
- I was both happy and a little scared - just the awe of the legend itself."
Charley Pride's RCA Victor single "You Win Again" came on the country music
charts May 10th 1980 and was in the top slot on July 12th.
The session was produced by Charley Pride and Jerry Bradley.
It was his 43rd charted song and his 24th number one.*

A LETTER FROM WILL CAMPBELL.*
Via: Jack Blanchard
*"Hey, Jack.
"Actually, I didn't really want to go to Korea
because I'm not as brave and manly as I look.
But duty called,
and I gladly went after my government threatened to jail me If I didn't.
My motto was...'Join the army, meet interesting people, and kill them.'
"There were three of us who went Into the army at the same time:
me and the two MP's who were dragging me!
I was so excited.
"One of the first things I did in Korea was go for my physical checkup.
They wanted to find out If I was healthy enough to get shot and killed.
"My days in Korea were all about the same...Shoot somebody you didn't know...
and they would shoot you In return, and say things like 'Go Home Yankee.'
I would usually respond with 'Oh, Yeah...Make Me.'
This would really make them mad.
"The commanding officer told me that I was being returned to the states
because none of the men liked my guitar playing or singing.
"When I finally got home from Korea,
I was totally ignored and dehumanized,
and made to feel unnecessary, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
"I leave you with this thought...
Betsy Ross said to George Washington,
'So you don't care for red, white, and chartreuse?'

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH
By: Stan Hitchcock*
*
At 3:45 this morning, the first of the long line of storms hit...Grade A
Thunderboomers, with lots of lightning and heavy rain. After about an hour of
the boomers, I finally got up and came out to the porch. Nature can sure put on
the fireworks, in these Spring storms. But here is the surprising part, at least
to me, in the middle of these storms...lightning flashing, thunder booming,
raining in a real downpour...the birds have been singing in the rain, wide open,
just a'getting it. I don't know how, in a storm like this a bird could even hold
on to a limb, let alone sing, but there it is. They have been doing this since
3:45 when the first boomer hit. I know one thing, if I was sitting in a duck
blind, or deer stand or on the water trying to fish and a storm like this came
up...I dang sure wouldn't be singing. This line of storms goes all the way down
into Mississippi, so we are going to have them most of the day, looks like. Sure
glad I got the grass mowed yesterday cause the rest of the week is gonna be
pretty wet. So, if your out walking in the rain, and you want some
shelter...come on by and sit on the porch and we'll have some coffee and tell a
few stories, and listen to the birds singing in the rain.*

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:*
*
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome
all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that
the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
