QUESTION: Years ago, there was a family group of musicians who toured all over the country as The Maddox Brothers and Rose. Were they a real family and whatever happened to Rose?
AMSWER: The group were real brothers Cal, Henry, Fred, Don, Cliff and sister Rose, who first performed on Modesto, California's KTRB Radio in 1937. When Cal, Fred and Don were drafted, the group disbanded in 1941, but re-grouped in 1946 and became known as "the most colorful hillbilly band in America." Rose later placed 14 songs on the country charts as a single act (1959 – 1964.) She died in 1998 at the age of 72.
