QUESTION:     Do you have  information concerning a special Minnie Pearl celebration at The Grand Ole Opry? My daughter said it was mentioned on the radio. 

 

 

 

ANSWER:         To celebrate the 100^th anniversary of the birth of Minnie Pearl (Sarah Ophelia Cannon), The Opry House Backstage Pass tours will offer a photo opportunity in the "Now That's Funny" dressing room which includes a stand-up of Minnie, plus photos of her life will be on display in the lobby of the Opry beginning July 12 – AND - The Opry Backstage Grill will feature a strawberry shortcake birthday dessert in the shape of Minnie's famous hat. Opry.com will also include a special "Hats Off  To Minnie" page where fans can share their memories of her in a "Minnie Moments" as well as listen to the "Minnie Moments" that country stars have shared about her on the website.

THIS WEEK IN 1966: Minnie Pearl's one and only chart record had come and gone. "Giddyup Go – Answer" (the answer to Red Sovine's "Giddyup Go"), came on the country music charts March 5^th, 1966 and peaked at # 10. The Starday Records single was on the charts for 12 weeks.
