» Happy 214th: As we approach Independence Day, country artists share their favorite Fourth of July memories:
  • "Fourth of July ... it's all about being outside to me. Even when we're on tour [or] the tour's just wrapped up, you can feel everybody getting antsy to go outside and enjoy summer." — Carrie Underwood
  • "What I hope about the Fourth of July is that my kids will understand what people have sacrificed so that they can live the way they do. I mean, people gave up their lives. We have people in this country with that kind of grit ... to go fight for a cause that you believe in." — Lee Ann Womack
  • "My best [Independence Day] memories would be hanging out with my mom, brother and sister on the beach on Tybee Island, right off the coast of Savannah, GA. We'd go there pretty much every year. We'd light our own fireworks and watch the ones they had for us. They were some of the best times of my life." — Billy Currington
  • "I think we spend $400-500 on fireworks alone during Fourth of July ... We've almost blown ourselves up a couple times, but it's something me and my dad just love doing." — Chris Young
  • "As a kid, I loved Fourth of July because I could shoot Roman candles at my siblings. But then, when you finally understand what it stands for, and you're old enough to grasp that the only reason you can shoot Roman candles at your siblings is because there are people out there who are sacrificing their lives ... they allowed all of us to continue to be free and do the things that we love." — Jerrod Niemann

» Changes In Latitudes: Good news/bad news for the rescheduled concert CMT Presents Jimmy Buffett & Friends: Live From The Gulf Coast. The bad: Kenny Chesney was originally scheduled to perform but can't because of a longstanding commitment. "[I] hate that I can't get to Gulf Shores to sing with Jimmy Buffett, Mac McAnally and Zac Brown," Chesney tweeted this week. "[It's] gonna be great music!" Guests including Zac Brown and others TBA. The good: CMT will air the special July 11 at 7pm ET and simulcast on CMT.com. The show was rescheduled because of potentially dangerous surf conditions from Hurricane Alex. Details here.

» Tip Jar: In other Chesney news, the Lucky Old Son will webcast his two-night stand at Las Vegas' The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on NoShoesRadio.com beginning Friday (7/2) at 10pm ET. Also, Chesney's four-point plan to "Party Like Kenny Chesney" is featured in the current issue of Men's Journal as part of a how-to "Do Summer Right" guide. A couple of tips for a killer KC bash: "If you're working hard at it, you're not doing it right" and "It's not about dressing up; the fewer clothes, the better."

» Spreading The Love: The Brooks & Dunn Last Rodeo Tour will restart with star-studded appearances July 16 as Gary Allan, Sarah Evans, Miranda Lambert and Country Music Hall of Famer Merle Haggard will join B&D for select dates. Ronnie Dunn, who is currently on vocal rest and following doctor's orders, emailed, "Getting better every day. Kix [Brooks] and I will be raring to start where we left off ... and go for three additional dates to say thanks to all the fans for 20 years of showing us the love." Those additional cities getting some B&D affection are Oklahoma City (8/20), Little Rock (8/21) and Holmdel, NJ (8/28). Complete schedule and details here.

» Wild Nights Are Calling: Avid outdoorsman Craig Morgan has landed his own Outdoor Channel series Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors, premiering Saturday (7/3) at 11am ET. "It's a non-scripted reality kind of show about my life and how I do the things in the outdoors," Morgan says. "Everything from hunting, fishing [and] dirt bike-riding to skiing, we're filming all that ... we're really excited." View the trailer here.

» Better Together: Happy fourth anniversary to Keith Urban and wife Nicole Kidman, who celebrated over the weekend on the road. "I knew I was going to be playing on our anniversary, so I asked my wife if she'd come along," Urban told a Colorado audience Saturday (6/26). "She had to get back to Nashville this morning, so we got up early, and it was the most gorgeous morning in Colorado. We had these motorcycles with us, [so] I said, 'Well, let's squeeze in a little bit of a bike ride before we go because it's beautiful riding up here.' We started riding around and she loved it so much, we just called and canceled the plane." Hear more in the latest Urban Developments video here.

» Crib Note: Congrats to expectant parents Jay DeMarcus (Rascal Flatts) and wife Allison, who are expecting their first child in January, 2011. "Allison and I are thrilled about becoming parents," Jay says. "I am confident Ali will be a wonderful mother because she has done an incredible job raising me over the past six years." Allison adds, "Jay and I are thrilled to let everyone know we are going to be parents! We can't wait and are ecstatic to share our news." The couple married May 15, 2004 in Nashville.
