» Cook's New Role With KKGO: Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters President/GM Saul Levine will become more involved in the day-to-day programming and programming decisions for KKGO/Los Angeles as the role of KKGO's Sr. Dir./Programming and McVay Media VP/Country Charlie Cook changes to Sr. Consultant, through October. Cook leaves the day-to-day programming responsibilities after almost two-and-a-half years with the station. He began consulting KKGO in January 2008 before moving to Los Angeles and going in-house at KKGO in October of that year. "KKGO needed someone to help with the transition from diary to PPM, and the station enjoyed incredible success," said Cook. "I am proud of what we've accomplished in L.A., where broadcasters had given Country music radio up for dead. KKGO is one of only three Country stations in the nation to deliver more than one million cume month after month for well over a year now. I have enjoyed the partnership with Saul, but I am excited for my next challenge." Contact Cook at 818-378-5979 or Charlie_Cook@earthlink.net or Charlie@mcvaymedia.com.

» More Gold For KKGO: Elaborating on his increased involvement with KKGO's programming and music, Mt. Wilson's Saul Levine told Country Aircheck, "I've been programming for 50 years, and the fundamentals have not changed; a great song is still a great song. The music will essentially stay the same. We already play the best of the best, and will continue to do so. The only complaint we've had is about the repetition, so we'll figure a more ingenuous way to get the hit music played without the feeling of, 'I just heard this song.'"

To help with that, KKGO's Gold library will be expanded. "We will be expanding the repertoire, but not at the expense of new releases," explains Levine. "We're going into the archives to get music from the '90s we aren't playing now that both fits our sound and is of high audio quality. There will be more emphasis on those songs; I'd like to hear more Garth Brooks, for instance."

KKGO Marketing Dir./Station Manager Michael Levine added, "Go Country 105 is very music-intensive and plays the fewest commercials of almost any Country station around the USA, which gives us the ability to go deeper in Gold."

KKGO PD/MD Tonya Campos sent an email outlining KKGO's new policies to label reps today; it's detailed below.

» KKGO's New Call Policy: An email from KKGO PD/MD Tonya Campos this morning outlined new label access guidelines to the station. It read, in part:

New music releases or inquiries about airplay on KKGO FM should be emailed to both Saul Levine, General Manager, at 105@Mountwilsoninc.com and Tonya Campos, Program Director, at tcampos@mountwilsoninc.com.

Please be aware we are not accepting phone calls on airplay, and all callers will be instead directed to send an email about airplay to both Mr. Levine and Ms. Campos.

We are also not accepting emails or phone calls in which spins are mentioned. All emails that contact information on the number of spins for a song will be deleted and will contain no reply.

In regards to station visits to discuss new music, we can arrange monthly meetings. Please email Ms. Campos to arrange a monthly meeting to discuss new music or any other topics.

In regards to new artists who will be in the area, please continue to arrange visits to the station by contacting Ms. Campos.

For all other programming-related questions, please contact Ms. Campos.

Commenting on the changes, Levine told Country Aircheck, "We're looking to make the process more efficient. It's been helter-skelter, with people calling at all hours. We welcome input and comments from label people and want that to continue, so we'll be setting appointments for certain days to address inquiries."
