STORY BEHIND THE SONG

According to Bill Anderson – he has the privilege of writing the song that
Johnny Carson called the worst song he had ever heard in his life!

Anderson commented, "You remember how Johnny Carson used to go out in the
audience and ask people to sing these obscure songs and play like Stump The
Band. Some guy got up there one night and started singing "At The Time" and he
was singing that line about "if you've never had filet mignon, peanut butter
suits you fine," or if you've never been to Paris, France, Big Spring, Texas
will suit you fine."
Johnny Carson looked at the guy and told him that is the worst song I have ever
heard in my life. I actually took that as a compliment. Now there's no great
story behind writing that song. It was just kind of a fun thing of saying that
if you've never had the best then you'll settle for less."

Jean Shepard's United Artists single "At The Time" came on the charts February
23rd, 1974 and peaked at number 13. It was her 35th charted song and was on the
charts for 13 weeks.

ROAD DREAMS.
By: Jack Blanchard

I hate dreams. In most of them
I'm trying desperately to get to Buffalo.
I don't know why.
I haven't lived there since it was a stagecoach stop.

The roads all wind up going nowhere,
and the people are usually crazy.
Those that I know have been dead for years,
but don't know it.

Often I'm riding in a bus at night
watching for the lights of a certain street or town,
so I can ask the driver to stop.
When I do get off there's nothing but a dark empty crossroads with no signs of
life.

The insanity always seems explanable to me at the time.
It never occurs to me that it's just another stupid dream.

I'm stuck in cities or towns that look slightly famiiar,
but that I can't pin down.

I'm confronted by old enemies that I don't recognize,
but whose presence means danger.

Indoor settings are always dumps that change shape
when I try to find my room.

Misty is a recurring character that slips in and out of scenes.
Sometimes I'm trying to call her on a pay phone.

I've considered that some of my dreams
could be the result of living on the road for so many years
through strange territory, not knowing what was ahead..

I wonder if the things I see at night
are what the mentally ill see in the daytime?

View From The Front Porch-Stan Hitchcock

Denise and I took a drive, a couple of years back on Memorial Day, in the
country and through the small towns,

and I was encouraged to see, that in small town America, a lot of the Traditions
are unchanged. I saw lots of flags, in yards and on houses, I saw signs,
thanking the Vets on business fronts, I saw families gathering, out in the
country, having a meal outside on the lawn, decorations on telephone poles in
some of the small towns, like maybe they were gonna have a parade.

Made me feel proud of Sumner County, Tennessee, and Trousdale County,
Tennessee...towns like Westmoreland, Bethpage, Hartsville...and our hometown of
Gallatin. It's not the Country Folks and Small Town'ers, that has forgotten what
America stands for, and for that I am mighty glad.

God Bless America, and Lord, look back in the Rural areas and small towns and in
what some people call "The Fly Over Areas" and you will find we still Worship
You, We Salute The Flag, We Take Care Of Our Families...and we try to serve
others, in any way we can.

Thank You Lord. Amen.

*/THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he
has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus
Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or
fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded
by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in
the last time.

– 1 Peter 1:3-5 (NIV)
