STORY BEHIND THE SONG
A lot of hit songs have come out of songwriting sessions in which the writers
were actually working on an entirely different song, and according to Bob McDill
– Dan Seals 1988 number one "Big Wheels In The Moonlight" was one of those
tunes.
McDill commented: "Dan Seals and I were working on something else at the time
and he said something - and I asked him what he said and he repeated whatever it
was and I told him that I thought he had said "Big Wheels In The Moonlight"
He told me that he didn't say that and I told him I thought it sounded like a
good song so he agreed and we wrote it. We'd always wanted to write a trucker's
song anyway. That song just came out of thin air…..somehow."
Dan Seals' Capitol Records single "Big Wheels In The Moonlight" came on the
country music charts November 12th, 1988 and made it to number one.
It was his 16th charted song and his 9th number one. The single was on the
charts for 21 weeks.

LIFE IS A SONG.
By: Jack Blanchard
A song is exactly like life...
except that in a song you don't brush your teeth
or go to the bathroom
or drop things
or watch a duck
or go to the store and they don't put the donuts you paid for in the bag
or sleep
or tell somebody "bite me"
or look at a hole in your sock
or wonder if there's a monkey under your bed
or get bored or watch too much TV.
In a song people talk in rhyme,
and funny or sad things happen,
and there is often a point to it.
A song lasts three minutes.
Life lasts longer than three minutes.
In life you can listen to songs
but in a song you probably can't
unless it's about listening to some dumb song
that you can't get out of your head
like Teddy Bears' Picnic
when you're trying to watch Judge Judy.
Otherwise life is like a song.
Man is the only animal that can sing a song,
or cares.
A song is life distilled
and then whittled down
until it's small enough to get in your ear.

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH
By: Stan Hitchcock
View From A Warm Fire-Stan Hitchcock
A beautiful sunshiney day, but it's colder than the man holding the lantern for
the frozen butted man digging the well in the Yukon (that's mighty cold)and why
would you be digging a well in the frozen Yukon this time of year anyway? It is
questions like that which keep me wondering as I go through life with a glazed
look in my eyes and mumbling to myself.
It's like the other day when I went for my yearly doctor checkup...course, every
time you come in now you gotta fill out paperwork as big as a New York City
phone book. So, I am filling out the same information that they have had on me
since Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue...you know...(name)...(address)...(married,
single, Luthern or Presbyterian)...and then I came to the part that used to say
(Race?)..course I always answered that with (Human) just to confuse them...but
now, they have changed that to: (Hispanic or Non Hispanic)..what? That is my
Options now? I'm either Mexican or Non Mexican? So, to the Government Medicare
(which makes up these forms for the Medical Profession) I will forever more be
Non Mexican? Hey, you jerks in Washington...how about Scots-Irish, or English,
or Eskimo...or just plain HILLBILLY? You got a problem with that?
Then I looked around the Waiting Room, and realized that I, and a giant 300
pound gentleman in a pair of Big Smith Overalls that you could have made a
Circus Tent out of the material...we were the only two in the room that could
put Non Hispanic on the form...and he wasn't talking to nobody so I couldn't
point out this new specification to get anyone else's opinion...just had to sit
there and fume and stew in my Non Hispanic frustration...well, I scratched
through it and again put (HUMAN)...just to be contrary, then I looked at the
next space on the form (SEX)...I put the pencil down, gathered up the papers and
gave them back to the girl behind the glass...I might be a Non Mexican but by
golly I ain't giving them no information about my Love Life.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It
teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live
self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for
the blessed hope-the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus
Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify
for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
– Titus 2:11-14 (NIV)
