                                     STORY   BEHIND   THE   SONG

A lot of hit songs have been written in bed and according to Jack Clement, George Jones' 1962 hit, "A Girl I Used To Know" was one of those songs.

Clement commented, "I was in Beaumont, Texas. I was just laying in bed one night and that line "A Girl I Used To Know" just flashed in my head. That happened a lot back in those days. I was always getting ideas laying in bed, so I didn't think much about it and just went to sleep. Well the next morning, I started thinking about that title again and wrote a song with a whole different set of lyrics. The slant of it was he's married to this girl but she's changed  so now she's just a girl he used to know. And the key line was "she shares my name and wears my ring, but she's just a girl  I used to know." I wrote that whole song just that way and then I started thinking that I could get more out of the song. And that's when I came up with the idea of a guy having his wallet out and somebody sees this picture that he's carrying around with him  and  he explains, "oh it's just some girl I used to know." And I have been told that that song is Ray Charles' favorite country song. I got a kick out of that."

George Jones' "A Girl I Used To Know" came on the country music charts October 6th, 1962 and peaked at # 3.

It was his 30th charted song and was on the charts for 18 weeks.

I FEEL RANDOM TODAY.

   By: Jack Blanchard

Today it's pot luck...
a loose collection of random thoughts,
most of which I made up, and a few I borrowed.

Communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff.

"Dear musician,
We look forward to your performance at our daughter's wedding.
We'll have your check for the fee of $35 by the end of next month.
We're a little short as the young lady doing the balloon arch
wanted her $1,850 in advance,
and the DJ had to be paid up front his $2,500 as normal."

Liven up singalongs by singing "with no pants on" after every line.
"Santa Claus is Coming to Town, with no pants on",
Good Night Irene, good night Irene. I'll see you in my dreams, with no pants on",
"Here Comes the Bride, with no pants on", "God Save the Queen", etc..
It works great on "The Sheik of Araby".

Misty asked me, 'Did you sleep good?'
I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.'

It's HOT here. I want dress cooler but it must be stylish.
I think I'll put on my tweed string bikini.
And my open-toed cowboy boots.

I had a friend who was a clown.
When he died, all his friends went to the funeral in one car.

I hate it when my foot goes to sleep.
I know it will be up all night.

Hundreds of years ago they had computers and cell phones,
but there was no place to plug them in.

Do alligators get reptile dysfunction?

"Waiter, what's this fly doing in my soup?"
"I believe it's the backstroke, sir."
"But, I ordered a moth."

My father made a meager living selling meagers.

Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die,
your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck.

If a person is nice to you, and not nice to the waiter,
they are not a nice person.

Some writers close with a prayer.
I'm just going to add a couple of actual prayer lines
said by children in a New York City kindergarten:
"Give us this day our jelly bread."
and "Lead us not into Penn Station."

In response to many requests, YES I am on Facebook and you are welcome to become a friend—UNLESS you are one of those that posts photos of your grandkids or your pet cat every other day. I don't have the time or interest for that. SO—if that's what you do on Facebook.. just forget me !

I'm the Doug Davis with the photos of the guitars.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Psalm 31:1-2,6

In you, O Lord, do I seek refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me!
Inlcine your ear to me, rescue me speedily!
Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!
You hate those who pay regard to vain idols; but I trust in the Lord.
