STORY BEHIND THE SONG
According to Eddy Arnold - having a hit record can open the doors to better
songs.
He commented, "After the success with "What's He Doing In My World" and "Make
The World Go away," we started getting the good songs. Publishers and writers
started bringing me the good songs - it's kind of funny how that works. After
"Make The World Go Away," we were offered "I Want To Go With You." This was
another Hank Cochran song and I liked it the first time I heard it. I recorded
it and it was another big hit."
"I never got into - or even wanted to get into - political songs. And I didn't
want a writer to think he had to give me half the song to get me to record it. I
just didn't think that was right. And I wanted the writers to bring me their
good songs because they knew they wouldn't have to share the song with me. If I
liked the song - I'd record it."
Arnold's RCA Victor single "I Want To Go With You" came on the country music
charts February 12th, 1966 - made it to number one and stayed there for six
weeks. It was his 91st hit record and was on the charts for 19 weeks.

MORE ODDS AND ENDINGS.
By: Jack Blanchard
We'd been on the road
racing from show to show for a long time.
We were about to drive under an overpass.
Above on the crossing road
an Amish man was driving his horse and buggy at a leisurely pace.
I said to Misty, "I wonder if he's happier that I am?"
Two of our best Key West friends were Mel Fisher and his wife Deo.
He was the treasure hunter
who found millions in Spanish gold and artifacts off the Florida coast.
Mel and I often played chess in a little French bakery and coffee house.
Charlie McCoy plays everything.
Besides harmonica, he's played organ, vibes, trumpet, tuba, and saw
on our recording sessions.
We had a smart toy poodle named Wolf.
On the road in our motor home,
Misty was trying to play fetch with him, throwing a toy.
He humored her a couple of times, and then he did this:
He nudged the toy off the seat with his nose,
and then looked up at her for help.
Misty reached down to the floor and put the toy back up on the seat.
Wolf waited a few minutes and then knocked it off again.
After I watched this a while I realized Wolf had taught Misty to fetch.
If owls were finger lickin' good we'd all be eatin' KFO.
I went to bed kinda happy about last night's column,
and then I woke up today and read it.
It could have been done by a monkey with a typewriter.
I've told that monkey not to do that.
IN THE FUTURE... There will be no more rest rooms.
There will be an app on your cell phone for that.
One of the side effects of my new medicine:
Involuntary tap dancing.
It was a bright sunny day...
I was up early doing my hallucinations before breakfast.
I did a complete workout...
deltoids, adenoids, Altoids, and factoids.
biceps, triceps, and forceps.
If I were forced at gunpoint
to name the best musician we've ever recorded with,
I would probably say Hargus "Pig" Robbins.
If it was really at gunpoint I'd say whatever they wanted to hear.
ONE REASON I LIKE THE CRACKER BARREL...
It's a big place full of people actually talking to each other.
When the horse dies, get off.

View From The Front Porch-Stan Hitchcock
As the Sun comes up over the Sycamores with a Blessed New Day, my old body,
refreshed after a good nights sleep, starts feeling the effects of the good
strong coffee and a cool breeze on my face, I am Thankful for another day of
Life. I have found that the "quiet" time that I enjoy every morning on our Front
Porch is essential to my peace of mind and contentment. No News Channels on TV,
no newspaper headlines screaming out bad news, no radio talk show doing the same
thing. I'll tell you what, it's hard for stress to live in the presence of a
Thankful Heart…and my morning time of counting my blessings prepares me for
whatever might come later in the day. The result of cutting out all the negative
and replacing it with a quiet time of Thanksgiving is a new strength to start
the day.
Today will bring a whole new set of challenges to many of us, in our lives, some
will face health issues, others just trying to make a living in a hostile
economy, others, like Denise and I, how to keep doing what it is that we do,
with our business ventures. The only answer, to whatever the challenge, as long
as you have breath to breathe, and strength to stand, their is hope. We are a
strong and resilient people, most of us born of ancestors that faced the Great
Depression, Two World Wars, and several Wars that were not called Wars, but
were, and who came out of it to build a family, or else you wouldn't be here.
Can we do any less?
On the final chapter of my book, "At The Corner Of Music Row, And Memory Lane" I
quote from a favorite passage of Isaiah 40:28-31, "Have you not known? Have you
not heard? The Everlasting God, The Lord, The Creator of the ends of the Earth,
Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power
to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the
youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those
who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with
wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not
faint."
So, I reckon that about says it. There is no strength, except that which is
given by the Lord. Age is not the answer, even though, in todays marketplace,
only the youth population is of any importance. No, the answer is ageless, it is
to seek the Lord, and His Will for your life.
So, I gather myself up, head out to fight any Dragons that I might come across.
Haven't heard of many Dragon sightings in this part of Tennessee lately, but ya'
just never know. Remember, as the young men faint and grow weary, we can just
ease on by and keep on 'a'truckin'. Shoot, it ain't no hill for a stepper.
C'mon, let's go get 'em. Grab you a biscuit and a hunk of fried pork ..take
another gulp of that strong coffee and we are ready! Old Timers Rule. stan

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his
heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. Some trust in
chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
– Psalm 20:6-7 (NIV)
