STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Several recording artists have commented that they believed they knew when they
had recorded a hit song while others says they had no idea what song would be a
hit!

And according to Charley Pride - the success of his 1971 number one "Kiss An
Angel Good Morning" was a complete surprise to him!

He commented, "No - I had no idea that that song would do what it did - it never
crossed my mind that it would be such a big hit. But I knew I liked the song.
The first time

I heard the song - I wanted to record it. I really liked it. I couldn't wait to
get in the studio to record it. Ben Peters wrote that song. That's where it came
from. But I never

expected it to do what it did!"

Charley Pride's single "Kiss An Angel Good Morning" came on the country charts
October 23rd, 1971 and made it to number one - where it stayed for five weeks.

It was his 17th charted song and was on the charts for 19 weeks.

IT'S THE CONTRASTS.
By: Jack Blanchard

I was rereading a complimentary review of one of our records.
The reviewer said this:
"It's one of the best songs Jack has written
in his long career as a songwriter."

I read the write-up about a dozen times
due apparently to a self-esteem problem.
Then I started to think "What's wrong?
I should be happier than this."

Digging through my cluttered ego,
I think I found the problem.
It was the phrase "his long career".

That's it? That was the career?
Somehow I've always thought of myself as an up-and-comer,
expecting to break into a career at any moment.
I didn't know I was actually having one... a long one.

I guess any musician who gets through life
without resorting to too many day jobs, can call it a career.

How could I have had this alleged long career
when I still feel 27 years old inside?
It must be insecurity when I take a compliment as an obituary.

Peggy Lee sang a famous song titled "Is That All There Is?".
I know the song is good,
but I always avoided listening to it.
When it comes on, I mentally cover my ears
and sing Jingle Bells, fake a coughing fit,
or just leave the room.
Some songs cut too close to the truths we don't want to hear.

I write sad songs about life and death, so who am I to talk?
But if I'm in the later chapters of a long career,
where's my mansion? My big bank account?

Misty and I were never Nashville insiders,
and we never got paid for most of our efforts,
but for some reason we still love our work, and will never retire.
We're waiting for some excitement... a tour...
the Big Break.

Retirement to me is like endless recess.
We have too much left to do.

We'd like to move to Cortland, New York.
It's beautiful country,
they have a Country Music Hall of Fame,
and there's an apple named after the town.
So why not?

Or maybe Tennessee or California, Australia or Buffalo.
Somewhere to see new or old things.
Have an adventure.

I know Misty and I have been doing this for a lot of years,
and yet it seems like one year.
We've had unbelievable fun, and some real hell along the way.
The bad times made the good times taste better.
It's the contrasts.

We still want more.
We're addicted to life and music.

View From The Front Porch-Stan Hitchcock

Words of Scripture

Y'know, the Islamic Terrorists think they are pretty smart, sending their
operatives to our Country to live amongst us and do their terrible deeds, but
Jesus told about this in one of His Parables.
He tells the story (for Parables are simply stories to make a point) of the
Farmer who sowed his good seed in his field. His enemy sneaked into the field
and sowed seeds
of Tares (weeds). When the crop started coming up, the weeds were there among
the good crop. The workers came to the Farmer and asked, "Master, did you not
buy
good seed for us to sow? The Master answered, "yes, an enemy has come to sow
weeds in our fields." Instead of having the workers pluck the weeds out of the
field, he
had them wait until the crop had ripened. He then had the reapers pull and
gather the weeds first and cast them into the furnace. The good plants were then
harvested.
Jesus explained the Parable in this way:
"He who sows the good seed is the Son Of Man (Jesus).
The Field is the World, the Good Seeds are the sons of the Kingdom, but the
Tares are the Sons Of The Wicked One.
The Enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the Age, and
the reapers are the Angels. Therefore, the Tares are gathered and burned in the
fire, so it
will be at the end of this age.
The Son Of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom
all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them
into the
furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous
will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. HE WHO HAS EARS TO
HEAR,
LET HIM HEAR. " (the words spoken by Jesus Christ, as he spoke to the
Multitudes, who did not understand, and to His Disciples, who asked for, and
received this explanation.)
The Devil and his workers may rage and roar for a season, but their Fate awaits
them in the Lake Of Fire.
