STORY BEHIND THE SONG*

*

Crystal Gayle's single, "It's Like We Never Said Goodbye," made it to the top of
the country music charts on April 19th, 1980 and although this was not her first
number one - it was the first time that all top five slots on the country music
charts were filled by female recording artists - including Crystal Gayle -
Dottie West - Debby Boone, Emmylou Harris and Tammy Wynette with George Jones.

The Crystal Gayle winner was written by British songwriter Roger Greenaway - who
had written several pop hits.

Crystal commented, "His office had mailed us a cassette tape of the song and it
wound up in my car. Several days later I finally got around to putting the tape
in my cassette player and listening to it. I loved the song and wanted to record
it right away."

Crystal's Columbia Records single, "It's Like We Never Said Goodbye" came on the
country music charts February 9th, 1980 and was in the number one slot on April
19th.

The single was her 22nd charted song, her seventh number one, and was on the
charts for 14 weeks.*

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q: I heard something about a classic country concert at the Ryman Auditorium
in Nashville. Do you know anything about it?
A: "Opry Country Classics" will return to The Ryman for it's sixth year. The
nine show series of concerts starts March 27th and will run thru May 22nd and
will feature Larry Gatlin as host and will feature Marty Stuart, Charlie Daniels
Band, Oak Ridge Boys, Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan.

Q: The radio folks said that Loretta Lynn is recording with her
granddaughter. Is that true?
A: Loretta Lynn sings backup vocals on a remake of her first single, "Honky
Tonk Girl,' which is track on her granddaughter Tayla Lynn's newest recording
project, "Coal Dust," set for April 19th release.

Q: I saw a thing on the TV entertainment news about an Elvis Presley cape
being for sale. Do you have any information?
A: The cape that was custom made for Elvis Presley's 1973 "Aloha From Hawaii
via Satellite" concert is up for auction. The cape was not used because it was
to heavy so a lighter version was made and the original was shipped to
Graceland. The lighter version was sold for $102,250 in 1999.

Q: Do you remember a song that was on the radio years ago about "Get On My
Love Train?" Do you know who had that record?
A: "Get On My Love Train" was a 1974 number three hit for La Costa (Tanya
tucker's sister)

Q: There was a song on the radio back in the 60's about a second honeymoon."
Do you know who had that record?
A: "Second Honeymoon" was a number 15 hit for Johnny Cash in 1960.

Q: Do you know where Ray Stevens was born? Our neighbors say that back in
the 1950's they lived next door to a family in Akron, Ohio whose last name was
Stevens and they had son who was a nut and sang all the time. They're wondering
it that boy was Ray Stevens.
A: It's highly unlikely. Ray was born Harold Ray Ragsdale in 1939 in
Clarksdale, Georgia.

THE NEW NEIGHBORHOOD.*

By: Jack Blanchard

This morning we were awakened by our neighbor Nick
inviting us to a fish fry at the community center.
Being musicians, 11:30 is early for us,
but we met a lot of nice people.
Afterward we came home and had breakfast.

Then at 2 PM our friends Bill & Suzie,
a/k/a "Tall Timber Antique Medicine Show", came over.
Bill was going to hook up the washing machine
but we got the wrong part, so we get to do it again.
We recorded an hour long interview for their radio show tonight.
I'll let you know when it airs.

There is a huge box of cowboy hats
taking up space in the front bedroom.
When I lean back in a chair the front of the hat tilts up.
I like them anyway.
All hat.... no cattle?
No. The cattle are in the back bedroom.

Yesterday Misty brought home a water filter
called "Zero Water".
I think it filters out the wet part.

The new water filter must be working
because we drank some and we're not sick,
walking funny, or speaking like Porky Pig.

Misty is so hyper when she has things to do
like packing and moving.
She goes at it like she's killing snakes.

I'm gonna take my shirt off like Putin and sing Crimea River.

The problem with communism is... people like to own stuff.

"BORSCHT"... The sound of unexpected gas while dancing.

This from Will Campbell...
I ate some peanuts that were on the bar,
when somebody said, "You look great!""
I said "Who said that?"
The bartender said, "It's the peanuts. They're complimentary."

For the record...
There was a movie called "Porky's"
about a bar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Misty and I played there before the movie was made.

Somebody accused me of having a temper!
That drives me CRAZY!!!
THEY BETTER KNOCK IT OFF OR GET A KNUCKLE SANDWICH!!!
I hate people saying I have a temper.

That's it! Music has stood in my way long enough!
I'm going to clown college!

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH

By: Stan Hitchcock*

*

Late Night At The Old Farm House-Stan Hitchcock *

I was born at 12 Midnight, on March 21, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri. I was
born there to be close to my folks, who lived there. They say that I came into
the World singing, but I can't prove that as a fact, but I think it's probably
true, cause I been doing it ever since. I don't know why there are songs going
through my mind every waking hour, but that's just the way it is. When I turned
twelve, in 1948, I started playing guitar, so I could add some backup to them
songs running through my mind. All through High School, I was the one that
always played and sang at the parties, Ice Cream Socials, Cake Walks, Weiner
Roasts, Campfire gatherings and Coon BBQ's (a special event very popular in the
Ozarks). When I was 13 years old, I sang on the radio on KWTO for the first time
on Slim Wilson's show. Slim said he would like for me to travel and do some Fair
dates with him and the band....Mama put a squelch on that one real quick. At 15
when I started dating, I always had my guitar in the back seat of my car, ready
to whip it out and sing a good Roy Acuff song...one of them romantic ones like
Wreck On The Highway or Wabash Cannonball, and as you might imagine, that pretty
well stopped the romance. *

So, it seems, I was destined to be a hillbilly singer, a songwriter, guitar
picker...all in all...a starvin' musician. The years flew by, song after song
was thrown out there hoping someone would care enough to listen, miles after
miles after miles of highways, truck stops, Hotel rooms, backstage dressing
rooms, auditorium stages, honky tonks, night clubs, outdoor festivals, county
fairs, State Fairs, Rodeos and Carnivals...anywhere they could gather a crowd,
throw up a stage and let me sing my songs. It was the life that I was born for.
I lived it, I sung it, and I loved it. *

And, I still do. A life time of music, hanging with the finest musicians,
songwriters and entertainers that the World will ever know. I have sat at the
feet of my heroes in music, they have opened up their hearts to me, we made
music together, we helped one another get through may a lonesome night on the
road.*

Tonight, as I sit here in this old farm house, facing another year of my life,
putting away the year just past...I have a sense of peace, for I have followed
where my heart led me. It is good to do a lifetime of something that you love.
To be associated with people that you love and respect, people who can take
words and a line of music and make a wonderful song that touches people all over
the World.*

It has been my life.....and it is good. *

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:*

*

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that
by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of deaththat
is, the devil and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their
fear of death. *
