STORY BEHIND THE SONG

According to the history books – a lot of hit songs were written for certain
artists – or at least written with a certain artist in mind – but for whatever
reason – wound up being a hit record for someone else. And Janie Fricke's 1983
number one "He's A Heartache – Looking For A Place To Happen" was one of those
tunes!

In an interview with songwriter Larry Henley – he remarked that he and Jeff
Silbar actually wrote the song with Juice Newton in mind – but she turned it
down.

The song was then recorded by Tanya Tucker's sister LaCosta – but her version
went unnoticed.

At the time Janie Fricke was searching for an up-temo song to record. She
commented, "I was on tour with Alabama and I noticed the audience reaction to
their up-tempo songs and I wanted that."

"He's a Heartache" finally made its way to Fricke – she recorded it and her
Columbia Records single made the charts May 21st, 1983 and was at the top of the
list on August 13th.

It was her 19th charted song and was on the charts for 20 weeks.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q: I heard that Brooks and Dunn were reuniting for a big concert thing in
New York Park but just heard that they have canceled. Do you know anything about
that?
A: Brooks and Dunn did not cancel. Promoters of the proposed June 17-19th
2016 Farm Borough Festival at Randall's Island Park in New York canceled the
entire project. Project officials stated that "conditions dictate that they
redirect their energy at this time."

Q: According to my brother in law - The Bellamy Brothers are retiring from
touring. Is that true?
A: Not true! Howard and David Bellamy's 40th Anniversary Tour began on
February 6th in Florida and is currently scheduled to make more than 50 stops
nationwide before concluding in Maryland in mid-November.

Q: The radio folks said that Dolly Parton is doing something with a theater in
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Do you have any information?
A: Dolly purchased the Lumberjack Feud Dinner Theater in Pigeon Forge and has
renamed it Dolly Parton's Lumberjack Adventure Dinner & Show.

Q: My daughter tells me that the TV entertainment news mentioned Ronnie Milsap
celebrated some kind of music anniversary. What was that?
A: February 6th marked Milsap's 40th anniversary of his induction into the
Grand Ole Opry. At that time he was getting ready to release his eighth studio
album and was climbing the charts with his 10th charting single, "(I'm a) Stand
By My Woman Man," which became his sixth No. 1 hit.

Q: Do you have any info about the hall of fame having a Johnny Cash display or
something? It was in the newspaper.
A: Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan will be part of a Hall Of Fame exhibit called
"Dylan, Cash and the Nashville Cats," and will profile the studio musicians of
the late '60s and early '70s.

Q: I heard on the radio that The Oak Ridge Boys are doing something with Blake
Shelton. What is that about?

HOW TO BECOME PRESIDENT
by: Jack Blanchard

"You rang", said the Devil? "That was fast", said Herk Carlson.
"We aim to please", said Satan. "What's up?'
"I might be interested in selling my soul", said Herk,
"or maybe just renting it out."

"Make me an offer", said the Devil.
"Well, I've had my eye on being a celebrity".
"What field", asked the Devil. "Show business?"
"Sort of", said Herk. "I'd like to be pope."
"Sorry. We don't do popes", said the Devil.

"Could you make an exception", asked Herk?
My soul is in showroom condition. Hardly used."
"You'd have to throw in something besides just your soul", said the Devil.
"I'm up to my tail in souls. I may have to have a yard sale."
"Hmmm", said Herk.

"I could get you into Congress", said the Devil. "I have connections there."
"If I only wanted to be a politician I wouldn't need your help. No offense."
"None taken", said the Devil,
"but you'd be surprised how many politicians use our services."

"I'll think it over", said Herk.
"How about Governor of California, or even President?" asked the Devil.
"Very tempting" said Herk.
"Hey, tempting is what I do", said the Devil.

"I have your number", said Herk.
"And I have yours", smiled the Devil.
There's no hurry", said Herk, pretending he didn't care about being president.
"We have all the time in the world. At least I do", said the Devil,
vanishing in a burst of flame.
The Devil reappeared a moment later and said,
"Sorry about the fireworks. Old habits, you know."

Satan picked up his briefcase, walked to the elevator,
and pushed the "Down" button.
Herk stood there thinking about who he would like to invade first.

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH
By: Stan Hitchcock
Late Night View From The Old Farm House-
Well, as I shut the old farm house down for the night, I would like to put you
to sleep with this positive observation, something that should make you sleep
soundly, with visions of sugar plums dancing in your little heads...(have you
ever even seen a sugar plum? Yeah, me neither)...but, at least give you dreams
of some better weather than what we have had all winter.....In the morning, as
you wake up...say to yourself...ONLY 39 MORE DAYS!!!! Yes, my friends, I, the
keeper of the Official Spring Arrival Calendar, have personally counted up the
days, multiplied, divided, added and subtracted, as only an Official Spring
Expert can do, hit the button on my Little Jim Dandy magic adding machine and
out popped the answer....39 days. Now, who do you want to believe, me or some
dumb Yankee ground hog? Well, I can't believe it....I saw 12 people voting for
the dang ground hog. Okay, okay...some folks would vote for anything, as
evidenced by some of our career politicians...but, I digress....excuse me, just
go on to bed and keep that number 39, dancing with the aforementioned sugar
plums, in your little heads...and know that we are on the downhill slide
now...uh yeah, that downhill slide is caused by the blasted ice all over
everything...but, forget that...concentrate on 39...repeat after me....39,
39-ain't no hill that I can't climb, Spring is coming, shore'nuff, I'm from the
country and mighty tuff, snow may come but it's gotta go...gotta
go....gotta.....go . . . . .

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please
ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them
up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The insults
of those who insult you have fallen on me."
– Romans 15:1-3 (NIV)
