STORY BEHIND THE SONG

A lot of songwriters say they have no idea where some of their songs came from.
And according to Sonny Throckmorton –The Kendalls 1979 top 20 hit "I Don't Do
Like That No More" was one of those tunes!

Sonny commented, "That was one of those songs that just came out of nowhere
because I really don't know how we came up with it. It just happened – and for
no reason. Rafe Van Hoy and I wrote that song and I really have no idea where
the idea for that song came from. I don't remember if it was Rafe's idea or
mine. But we just got together one day to write and started working on it and
finished it up. As I remember it was a pretty easy song to write and didn't take
long to finish. I just don't remember where the idea came from"

The Kendalls Ovation records single "I Don't Do Like That Anymore" came on the
country music charts August 18th, 1979 and peaked at number 16.

It was Royce and Jeannie's 12 charted song and was on the charts for eleven
weeks.

Still cleaning out the storage room and found nine of the annual "Grand Ole Opry
Picture-History Books" from: 1994 - 1982 - 1992 - 1984 - 1979 - 1966 - 1969 -
1973 - and 1975 - each one contains a full page 8x10 color photo of each Opry
member of that year and at least one black and white photo on the corresponding
page along with the story of the artists life and career. These are photos that
you don't see anywhere else. Each book is from 150 to 175 pages - covers on a
couple of the books have separated but still in good condition. These books were
sold at all Grand Ole Opry performances for $2.00 - $6.00 each but all of these
have long been out of print so I am selling these nine books as a set for $85
which includes Media Rate shipping.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q: The radio folks mentioned a Loretta Lynn recording with a "Costello." What
is that?
A: "Everything It Takes" is a Loretta Lynn track with backup vocals by
British singer Elvis Costello in her new album "Full Circle." The album is set
for release on March 4th.

Q: Our radio guy said that Linda Ronstadt was receiving some kind of award. Is
she a country singer?
A: Linda Ronstadt placed 25 songs on the country music charts between 1974 and
1995 - including two number ones. She will receive the 2016 Special Merit Award
from the Recording Academy. She is battling Parkinson's disease and has not
released a solo album since 2004's "Hummin' To Myself," but some new music may
be coming soon: Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton have plans to release
a follow-up project to their 1987 "Trio" record. The project will feature
material from previous recording sessions that they felt was too good to keep in
the vault.

Q: I heard that Kris Kristofferson is getting a tribute somewhere. Do you have
any information?
A: A group of country music stars will come together in Nashville on March
16th at Bridgestone Arena to pay tribute to Kristofferson with an all-star
tribute concert - to be titled "The Life & Songs of Kris Kristofferson," a
one-night-only event honoring the country icon. Talent lineup includes Lady
Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Ryan Bingham, Rosanne Cash, Eric Church, Emmylou
Harris, Jamey Johnson, Willie Nelson, Darius Rucker and Trisha Yearwood.
Kristofferson himself will also take the stage.

Q: My son tells me that Hank Williams Jr. is going on tour with another singer
this summer. Do you have any details?
A: Hank Williams Jr. and Chris Stapleton will co-headline a tour beginning
August 5th in Tampa, Florida and ending eight cities later in Cincinnati, Ohio
on August 27th.

Q: I remember that Nashville's RCA Studio A was in the news some months ago -
about to be torn down. My daughter says she heard it back in the news this week.
Do you know what is going on?
A: Dave Cobb will now serve as the historic studio's caretaker and
producer-in-residence. After being threatened with demolition, RCA Studio A was
purchased by
philanthropist Aubrey Preston, who plans to preserve the space. Cobb has
produced sessions with Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Shooter Jennings and
Sturgill Simpson, and plans to continue the studio's legacy by making the space
available to other producers and artists on a limited basis when he takes over
this spring.

Q: Years ago my Grandpa sang a song about "that will be cash on the barrelhead
son." He said it was on the radio back in the 50's. Was that an actual song?
A: "Cash On The Barrel Head" was written by Ira and Charlie Louvin and was a
number 7 hit for the brothers in 1956.

TRYING TOO HARD.
By: Jack Blanchard

I was just pulling out of a streak of depression,
mostly due to lack of creative ideas, I think.
I kept forcing myself to go to the piano or guitar
and forcing myself to try to write a song.
I felt guilty and useless when it didn't work.
I'm supposed to be a writer. Isn't that who I am?
Have I lost it? Is that all there is?

I even took the recommended therapeutic walks,
but it seemed like I was trying too hard to enjoy that...
consciously looking at trees, sky, etc..
"Great sky. Nice tree. Is this working?" Again... forcing it.
It was my businesslike left brain fully in charge
and beating the hell out of me.

A few mornings later I got up and told Misty this:
"I've had it! I'm going to stop torturing myself."
I stayed away from the music room
and just did whatever I felt like doing.
I actually got happy!

A night or two after that
I got a surprise urge to play the keyboard,
and did it without trying to produce a masterpiece.
With no self-pressure and no guilt it was more like fun.
A couple of ideas came to me out of the blue.
I wrote them down for later.

I may play a little music tonight.
You never know what might happen
when you're not trying to make it happen.

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH
By: Stan Hitchcock

View From The Old Outdoor Fireplace-Stan Hitchcock
Our outdoor fireplace/Charcoal grill was built in 1952, when Tennessee Senator
Estes Kefauver came to Gallatin and announced he would run for President Of The
US. The family who originally built our old farm house, back in 1920,The Womack
Family, were staunch Democrats and active in the Sumner County Democratic Party.
They invited Senator Kefauver to come out to the farm and they would build an
outdoor BBQ grill and have a big crowd to eat and hear the announcement.
So, Mr. Womack had this outdoor fireplace/grill built special for the occasion
and it is said that they fed 2000 people that day. The Electorate did not seem
to take to Senator Kefauver but they said the bbq was delicious.
Today, the Conservative Hitchcock's own the farm, and we try to stay as far away
from politicians as it is possible to do. We use the fireplace and the big
concrete area that goes with it for sitting by the fire and relaxing. And, we do
have Songwriters come out and sing for our neighbors and friends on occasion.
So, we are sure glad they built it....but no politics allowed around the fire.
Calamity Jane, the Aussie, looks up and says, "What is a politician?" And I say,
"Better you never know."
