STORY BEHIND THE SONG

A lot of songs have been written while the writer was riding down the road and
according to Ronnie Rogers – Alabama's 1983 number one "Dixieland Delight" was
one of those tunes!

Rogers commented, "I was driving down the road out in the country near Fernvale,
Tennessee and the first line "Rollin' down a backroads Tennessee byway / one arm
on the wheel," – that's just what I was doing at that time. I wrote the first
verse and chorus of the song right then. I had a problem with the rest of that
song until I went out again one Sunday afternoon and it just came together when
I saw "a while tail buck deer munchin' on clover and a red tail hog sittin' on a
limb, a chubby ole groundhog – a croakin' bullfrog," I saw all that and just
wrote it down."

Alabama's RCA Victor single "Dixieland Delight" came on the country music charts
February 12th, 1983 and made it to number one on April 16th.

The single was produced by Alabama and Harold Shedd and was the group's 12th
charted song. It was on the charts for 16 weeks.

country – but I remember it was played on country music programs. Who were "The
Little Dippers?"

McCall and Hurshel Wigintin.

Q: Folks on radio mentioned a Moe Bandy song written by Hank Williams Sr. and
Bill Anderson. How could that be. Williams was dead long before Anderson came
along.
A: Moe's recording of "I've Done Everything Hank Williams Did But Die" was
written by Bill Anderson and the lyrics are all Hank Williams song titles –
which is why Hank is credited as co-writer of the song.

TRUE SCIENTIFIC FACTS.
By: Jack Blanchard

The scientific facts listed below are all true,
The comments under them are mine,
and do not reflect the opinions of the Internet.

Fact: "On average 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens every year."
Hardly anybody chokes to death on a typewriter.

Fact: "More than 50% of the people in the world have never made or received a
telephone call."
And yet they get a bill every month.

Fact: "It is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky."
Pigs have no idea where the rain is coming from and they don't care.
Being a pig takes all your attention.

Fact: "A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why."
This is why there are very few duck recording stars.

Fact: "A crocodile cannot stick its tongue out."
Crocodiles are too polite.

Fact: "No word in the English language rhymes with 'MONTH'."
I'd thertainly like to thee one jutht wunth.

Fact: "A snail can sleep for three years."
A snail doesn't have much to get up for.

Fact: "It's possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs."
I'll never sneak another cow up to my room.

Fact: "Horses can't vomit."
They haven't watched "CSI" .

Fact: "Elephants are the only animals that can't jump."
They can jump if you touch them just right.

I hope we've all learned something here today.

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH
By: Stan Hitchcock
The days after Thanksgiving starts the challenge of coming up with different
ways to use the wonderful left-overs from the Thursday Feast. Mama has crammed
so much into the Refrigerator that she can hardly get the door to close, and she
is constantly coming up with new ideas for usage. Makes you wonder how the old
folks did it before electric fridges...I remember Grandma sitting things on a
unheated back porch and covering them with a dish towel...and that was alright
in the Winter time...which makes me think...maybe that is why all the Big Eats
holidays are in the Winter Time, or early Spring. Thanksgiving, Christmas,
Easter are the big ones with the big meals...Fourth Of July it is Bar B Q or
Roasting Weenies...Labor Day is fixing Hamburgers on the Grill...only the big
Three Winter Specials do you fix enough to feed an Army, Navy and Air
Force...and then have a ton of left-overs. They have the Holidays then so they
can put the left-overs on the cold back porch. I have solved the mystery of
"left-over blues".
The only thing that can possibly let a man get through it is to sneak a Bologna
and Cheese Sandwich, a can of Beenie Weeines or some Gourmet Vienna Sausages
with a Saltine Cracker. You grab that stuff and go behind the barn to eat
it...and suddenly...You Hear Music! The Sun comes Shining Through The
Clouds...Little Disney Animals Are Dancing All Around You....Yes! Yes! Real
Food!
So, tomorrow Afternoon, I'll meet you inside the Barn, you bring the Saltines,
I'll have the Vienna's and the Beenie Weenies and the Bologna and Cheese
Sandwiches, we'll pull the cover off my Bass Boat and crawl up in it and have
our feast, just like in the Good Ol' Summertime! Yessirreebob! That is the
answer to the "Left-Over Blues" that always sets in after the Big Three Winter
Feasts. Real Men eat Vienna and Saltines...chug a Dr. Pepper straight out of the
bottle or can...and since they ain't no girls around...can then burp,
contentedly...and sit in their boats all afternoon.
I just love being a Hillbilly. When we get tired of sitting in the boat, we'll
go get our guitars and sit on the front porch to pick a little. Yeah, buddy,
that ought to do'er.
