STORY BEHIND THE SONG

According to Ronnie Milsap - the old saying "the more the merrier" might have
applied to his 1982 number one "Any Day Now."

Ronnie says he thought of recording the song months before the actual recording
session and when he finally did get around to recording - the finished product
was a basic rhythm track.

Then record producer Tom Collins brought in the Memphis Horns and then had
Bergen White add the strings after the background vocals.

Milsap commented "That was the first song that I used two tandem 24 tracks on
because we just couldn't get everything on one tape. Mixing the tracks turned
out to be a slow process because we had to run both machines at the same time to
mix. But it made a great record."

Ronnie Milsap's RCA Victor single "Any Day Now" came on the country music charts
May 1st, 1982 and made the top of the list on July 3rd.

It was his 34th charted song and his 20th number one. The single was on the
country charts for 17 weeks and peaked at number 14 on the pop charts.

QUESTION AND ANSWER

Q: I've heard that John Conlee and T. G. Sheppard are doing some project
together. Do you have any info?
A: John Conlee and T. G.Sheppard will join Lee Greenwood and Lorrie Morgan for
St. Jude Presents John Rich and Friends concert for the June 9th special concert
at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. The show will kick off the 2015
Fedex St. Jude golf tournament week and all proceeds go to St. Jude Chlldren's
Hospital.

Q: I heard the radio folks talking about a Superstar Duets." What is that?
A: They were probably referring to "ACM Presents: Superstar Duets" special
that aired May 15th and featured Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, Ronnie
Milsap, Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Marty Stuart, John Anderson, and Patty
Loveless - all paired with new country artists.

Q: My daughter was talking about Dolly Parton having a plant named after her.
Is that true?
A: Scientists have named a new species of lichen - a form of moss - after
Dolly Parton. Japewiella dollypartonina is found mainly in the Appalachian
Mountains from Maine to Georgia.

Q: I have heard that The Oak Ridge Boys are leaving country music and going
back to gospel music. Is that true?
A: The Oak Ridge Boys are not leaving country - but they have recorded a new
gospel album - "Rock Of Ages: Hymns and Gospel Favorites."

Q: Have you heard of a song titled "That's All Part Of Losing?" I recorded it
off the radio years ago and have no idea who sings it.
A: The song is a track in Jerry Reed's 1970 "Georgia Sunshine" album.

Q: Are you familiar with a song titled "There's A Lot About A Woman A Man
Don't Know?" It was on the radio years ago.
A: The song was a number 13 hit for Jack Greene in 1971.

"The Show Must Go On"
By: Jack Blanchard

"The show must go on" is not a commandment from God.
It's often used to manipulate entertainers for profit.

It's like saying, "The airplane must take off",
or "The funeral must go on" even if the deceased wakes up.

Somebody has to ask the question, "Are you sure the show must go on?".
It might as well be me.

A while back Misty and I were hired to headline a show in a southwest Florida
city.
We got half the money in advance.

The promoters who hired us apparently spent
too much money renting the football stadium,
and tried to make up for it by spending nothing on advertising.
The only ads were a few cheesy fliers inserted in grocery bags at a local
market.

Blissfully ignorant, we packed up and hauled our bus and crew
all the way down there on a hot summer day.
We were supposed to get the rest of our pay before the show.

We couldn't help noticing that only about a hundred people
were sitting in the infield.
Nobody up in the 25,000 seat stadium,
a clue that we might get stiffed.

I sent for the elderly man named Rusty or Dusty who had been our contact,
and asked him nicely for our pay.

He said the money man had stepped out and we'd get paid right after the show.
For sure.

I said I was sorry, but no.

He said please.

I tried to stick to my meager guns, knowing that after the show
our bargaining power drops to below zero.

He actually dropped to his knees and begged, in front of everybody.
This old man actually cried tears!
He said the small group of fans out there would be crushed.
He had a heart condition and would probably die if we cancelled.
The show must go on.

I started to crack. He blessed me.
He always knew I was a good person.
My wife knew I was an idiot.

The show did go on, and we did not get paid.
The money man was still among the missing.
Rusty or Dusty assured me that he would personally
bring the cash to us in Orlando the next day.
He said not to worry.
I worried anyway.

The next day was not good.
The more I stared at the front door, the more the doorbell didn't ring...
but, finally the phone did.
It was Rusty or Dusty.

He said the money man had decided not to pay us.
Rusty/Dusty was taking this well.
I was beginning to wonder if he really was on our side.

I wished he had come to the house to tell me
so I could twist his neck into a balloon animal.

VIEW FROM THE FRONT PORCH
By: Stan Hitchcock

My favorite thing...having my strong morning coffee on the Porch while the rain
is pounding straight down....watering the trees, flowers and grass...which, by
the way, were getting pretty dang thirsty, since all the recent rain has skipped
right around us for a couple of Months. I know, it's not good for the Memorial
Day picnics, ballgames, car shows, parades and concerts, but man, Nature is
gulping it down. Denise and I are heading down to Dickson, Tennessee after
awhile to visit my daughter Marilyn and her Husband Richard Holland.
Granddaughters will be there and good food is guaranteed, so it will be a good
day of family. I wish for y'all a good restful day of peace and love with family
or friends. I am working on teaching myself there is more to life than FISHING,
but I am kinda a slow learner...so, after the rain slows down in a couple of
days I'll have to get back at it. After all, the weather is warm, and the fish
await, and I never like to keep a Fish waiting.
So, as the rain continues, I will enclose myself in my music/fishing room and
play with my lures, yessir, that'll do 'er.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so,
because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for
one another is increasing.
